Description
Calijah Kancey is a defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He currently wears the number 94 and plays on their defense line.
Kancey was drafted by the Bucs in the 2021 NFL Draft with the 35th overall pick in the second round. Prior to joining the professional ranks, he played college football at Pittsburgh where he earned All-ACC honors in each of his final two seasons.
During his time at Pitt, Kancey established himself as one of the top interior linemen in the country. He totaled 87 tackles (including 26.5 tackles for loss), eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and four passes defensed over his career. His impressive play helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back ACC Coastal Division titles in 2018 and 2019.
As a rookie with the Bucs, Kancey has already made an impact on the field. Through six games, he has recorded nine tackles (three solo) and one sack while playing primarily in a rotational role behind starters Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh.
Off the field, Kancey is known for being soft-spoken and humble despite his immense talent. He credits much of his success to his family and upbringing, which instilled in him a strong work ethic and dedication to excellence.
